How would you friends describe you?
Outgoing, sociable, energetic, driven, lively, hard-working.

When did you start cycling?
I started my cycling career at 15. My brother gave me my first road bike and I joined my local cycling club, Leek CC. I entered some time trials, won the event I entered. I competed in the Youth National Track Championships at 15 and then age 16 I started road racing. I was picked up by the West Midlands Development Team, who took me on the Tour of Ireland and the British National Road Events. After a brief break from cycling, I began training again at 24 and competing in local road races and time trials, gradually getting my fitness back up to competition level.

What is your special talent?
Commitment to training, particularly for climbing.

What does the TEAM PRYDE program mean to you?
It has helped me achieve my goals for this year, which were to retain several hill climb trophies and to achieve podium position in the National Hill Climb Championship. I have surpassed this by also achieving 10 course records in the process. It also means I can purely focus on training because I know the bike will perform.

Where would be your preferred place to ride?
I love riding around the Derbyshire Dales, as there are some fantastic climbs and scenic roads. My favourite climb is Riber, which is in Matlock, Derbyshire because of its 1 in 4 switchbacks. I also enjoy riding the Yorkshire Dales and Moors for the contrast in scenery and climbs.

What was your biggest success in cycling?
It would have to be the 2014 RTTC National Hill Climb Championship, which was set at Pea Royd Lane in Stocksbridge, Sheffield. I was up against the best hill climbers in the country and I achieved a podium position of 3rd place, along with my teammates gaining 5th and 10th place achieving team prize.

Does your family support your cycling addiction?
I am married with a 3 year old son – both encourage me to train and compete, attending most races to cheer me on. My wife is a fantastic cook which is vital for my nutrition and she puts up with me spending hours on the bike in training.

Wine or beer?
I would say beer; I prefer German or Belgium beers although I don’t have a drink often!
